Oh look, I made something dumb!
Hey, remember when I used to knit and stuff? Instead of just boring you with pictures of my disgustingly adorable daughter? Well, I’m back in the knitting saddle with a very small and stupid project!

This month’s Whip Up Challenge was “Cozy.” As it so happened, I had a small item in my house which needed some cozying, so I decided to bust this out:

Hey check it: it’s a Koigu Birth Control Pill Cozy! The challenge says you should include a tutorial, and while I am not going to do a knitting tutorial, I will provide for you the extremely complex pattern. Ready? OK:
Yarn: Small amount of Koigu KPPPM or KPM in the color of your choosing. Or any other fingering weight yarn. Or any yarn you like really.
Needles: US2 KnitPicks circs (I used the 2 needle method of circular knitting, but feel free to use DPNs or magic loop) or whatever size you like to use with your chosen yarn.
Pattern: This will work for regtangular pill packs. Sorry circular pill-pack folks! Using the long-tail cast on, cast on as many stitches as you need to fit the circumference of your pill pack (for me this was 40 stitches) and join being careful not to twist. Knit 2 x 2 ribbing for half an inch. Continue in stockinette for as long as your pill pack is. Work a 3 needle bind off.
Hey, that was hard, huh?
On Saturday, Sarah, Jen, June & I went on a trip to Seed Stitch Fine Yarn in Salem, MA. I’ve talked about Seed Stitch before, it hasn’t even been open a year yet, but it’s probably my favorite yarn shop. The owner is super nice and the yarns are top of the line. I was just going to check out the sock yarn, but I ended up leaving with this instead:

560 yards of a hand-painted merino, color is called “The Beach.” I absolutely fell in love with this and I want to make a sweater for June with it. Since I have enough yardage, I think I am going to make a bigger cardigan sweater so it will fit for a while. Or maybe even a dress that she can later wear as a tunic style top as she gets bigger? Something like Knitty’s Anouk maybe (without the intarsia)? Hmm, not sure. If anyone has any ideas, let me know!
(and for those of you who actually like the baby pics? Big post tomorrow for June’s 3 month birthday

I love the cozy and its impressive title - put anything in all caps and it impresses me! Lovely yarn and Anouk is a lovely pattern. That Kate Gilbert has more talent in her little finger. But I cast my vote against the intarsia, maybe just knit some flowers in a solid yarn and tack them on. An i-cord stem and leaf if you want to remain true to the pattern. Thin of it as: Applique, the much saner alternative.
MAYBE SOME NICKY EPSTEINS KNITTED FLOWERS??? ILL LET YOU LOOK AT MY BOOK!
:)
Whee she’s knitting again! That’s a cute cozy but June is cuter so post those 3 month pics!
I absolutely love that you took the birth control cozy outside and put it on a - forsythia bush? - for the picture.
I use Nuvaring, so my BC cozy is, shall we say, built-in. At any rate, I’m so glad your pills won’t be affected by errant spring frosts.
Hooray for 3-month pictures!
Mmmmm gorgeous yarn! I love the Anouk design - it’s so practical, and also a little ‘Sienna Miller’, for the trendy baby, who wants to look like she hasn’t tried too hard!
Hope all’s well with you

are the brown ones chocolate flavored chewable pills? that might make them better!
very cute!
Three months already?! Really!?
I’m voting for a tunic top - that yarn is way too pretty to make something “short worn” with!
how cute!
love the pill cozy. perfectly discrete for staying in other peoples’s houses (like you In-Laws) who you may not want to be aware of your birth control needs.
[…] In any case, I was pleased with the result, but still had over a skein of yarn left. What to do with it, when I knew I probably couldn’t get 2 more full pairs of socks out of it? Why, knit ankle socks! And a pill cozy! (Oh my goodness; I just tried to load the URL for the ankle sock pattern I used, and it appears that spunmag.com is no longer! That’s too bad - and I’m sorry I can’t post a link to the pattern.) […]
