Happy Mother’s Day!
Sunday, May 11th, 2008It’s been a while since I did a June picture post, so I thought it would appropriate to do one today. Here are some random pics from the last couple months.
Lookin’ pretty.

Rocks and seaweed are two of the many treasures you can find at the beach.

She’s pretty much obsessed with spoons.

And figuring out how to blow bubbles.

She LOVES the see-saw.

And swimming.

Fun with doggies!

And kitties.

“I laugh at your cabinet opening prevention devices!”

Happy Mother’s Day to all the mommas, and children of mommas!
Meanest mom ever.

Summer Sewing
Thursday, April 10th, 2008Thanks so much to all of you who left such nice comments about my sweater! Unfortunately Wordpress rudely didn’t send any of them to me so I was unable to respond to them individually. I’m looking forward to finishing it, hopefully in enough time to wear it this summer!
Since I’ve been laid up at home most of the week with strep throat (oh dudes, the pain, it is incredible) I managed to get a little sewing done!

In the hopes of encouraging spring to hurry the F up, I thought June could use a couple summer dresses.
This orange fabric is some Heather Ross that I’ve had in my stash a couple years. The pattern is McCalls M5562 which is super easy for an inexperienced garment sewer such as myself.

I made these in a size 3 and the tie shoulders allow for some size adjusting so these should hopefully fit for a while!
This fabric was leftover from the backing of our friend’s baby quilt.

I was inspired to use it when I saw Beatrix’s lovely dress!

It only took about 45 minutes each to make these, so I’ll probably make a couple more before the summer is over (if spring ever decides to arrive!)
Snow day!
Monday, February 25th, 2008We got over a foot of snow on Friday, so on Saturday we took June out to experience her first snow. She seemed to like it for about 10 minutes, then was totally and completely over it, which is about how long I appreciate snow too.

I started this hat & scarf set last year, right before I went into labor. I thought I’d like to have some mindless knitting to work on through contractions. Hahaha! Yeah. Didn’t knit a stitch during labor, so this got put aside until recently. I had finished the hat last year but I just couldn’t get motivated to finish the garter stitch scarf until now. I’m glad I did because I love this set! So simple, but so bright and soft and squooshy! The hat is “Kim’s Hat” from Last Minute Knitted Gifts and as I said above, the scarf is just garter stitch. Worked in some Malabrigo leftovers I had laying around, the orange is Ladrillo and the pinky-red is Amoroso.
Speaking of things that make me feel squooshy, thank you all SO much for all the sweet comments you left for June! Here’s the birthday girl sporting the crown I sewed for her the morning of her birthday (I got this great idea from the fabulous SouleMama!)
There were presents:

And of course, cake!
She was more interested in the frosting than the actual cake, but everyone else liked it! Thanks to my pastry-cook friend Devon for the great banana cake recipe that I used! It was delicious and super easy!
And finally, random.org says that June’s birthday contest winner is commenter #56! Which was…Kristen! Yay! Kristen, send me your address when you have a chance and I’ll get a prize package in the mail to you sometime this week! Thanks to everyone who left such nice comments for June, I am sure when she’s old enough to understand, she’ll appreciate all the the love

11 months!
Monday, December 31st, 2007June, today you are 11 months old. A lot has happened this month, most notably that you started walking which you have nearly perfected and insist upon doing 95% of your waking hours which makes for some tired parents.
Also making for tired parents: Tantrums! With your newfound ability to walk, you also seemed to have developed a talent for tantruming. It seems you think that walking should enable you to be able to do whatever you want, whenever you want, and you don’t take kindly to being told otherwise. You also have a longer attention span now, so it’s a lot harder to distract you from these outbursts like we used to be able to. I really hope this is a phase.
You also experienced your first Christmas which you seemed to enjoy overall, though I think you found it a little overwhelming at times, what with all the paper to eat, and new toys, and parties, and crazy relatives and staying up waaaaay past your bedtime with minimal napping 2 days in a row. Your favorite presents seemed to be your new Sesame Street dolls (Oscar, Bert, Ernie, Grover and Snuffy)
All of those things are exciting, but my favorite thing happing this month is the new language skills you’re developing. I think you understand pretty much every word we say, like seriously. But you’re also talking in some very vibrant baby-language now. Your latest phrase is “ba doo be doo,” which you walk around saying all the time with a variety of tonal inflections. “Ba doo be doo be doo be doo be doo be doo ba dooooooo BEEEE DOOOO BA DOO BEE DOOOOOOO” It’s like you’ve turned into some adorable 1940s jazz singer.
Enough with all that, here are some things you’re into this month!
Walking!

Computering!

Eating bows!

Dressing up fancy for Christmas!

Kitties who tolerate your manhandling!

Puzzles!

Your Wheelybug!

Maybe it’s time for some barrettes….

Hats, Sweaters, Santa
Friday, December 21st, 20071: Adriana is awesome! I got an unexpected package from her in the mail the other day! Look at this hat she made for June! SO CUTE! I’ve been told this is the Yarn Harlot’s “Unoriginal Hat” made in Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Aran! Yum! So soft! Thank you so much Adriana! She’s been wearing it out all week, we love it!

2: I have a few finished projects to show, and a few more that will be done by Christmas, so I’m going to wait until they are all finished and post them next week. Robyn requested a progress picture of the Drive-Thru sweater I’m working on for June. It’s not very interesting yet, but here it is:

I’m knitting this in Cotton-Ease in the 2T size, and at 9.5 sts/4″ it’s coming kinda huge…(the recommended gauge is 10 sts/4″). I haven’t worked with Cotton-Ease before so I don’t know how it washes but I’m hoping it will tighten up a little in a hot wash. But even it doesn’t, hopefully that just means it will fit next year too!
3: If you’re celebrating next week, I hope santa brings you everything you asked for! Merry Christmas!
This June was made for walking…
Thursday, December 13th, 2007Uh oh!
10 months!
Friday, November 30th, 2007June, today you are 10 months old! This has been a real month of learning for you. You will probably be walking very soon. You don’t ever hold on to anything when you’re just standing up anymore and you walk really well when you’re holding onto something, so it’s just a matter of combining the two (feel free to take your time with that).
Even though you don’t say many words, you understand a LOT of them. You can identify certain toys when asked and bring them to me. If I ask you to bring me Elmo, Cookie Monster, or Big Bird, you always get the correct one. If I ask you to play your piano, you comply. If I say “All done!” when you are finished eating or changing your diaper, you clap excitedly. You also clap if someone says “Yay!” and wave if someone says “Hi!” or “Bye!” You also understand the meaning of the words hungry, baba, milk, bedtime, toothbrush, bath, daddy, and no. Note that I said you *understand* the meaning of the word “no,” not that you obey it. In fact, you laugh in my face and continue opening cabinets/eating cat food/chewing on electrical cords. When I physically remove you from those situations, you flip the hell out. Fun times.
Which brings me to the second thing you’re doing this month: spitting out all your food. Every meal. All the time. I don’t know if you are just rebelling against pureed baby food and spoon feeding, or if you’re just being a jerk, but it’s really frustrating since you just seem to make a huge mess if I give you finger foods and I can’t tell how much you’re eating. You don’t seem to do it as often to Daddy, Nona, or Yiayia, but you do it consistently with me. I’m going to try giving you the leftovers of what we had for dinner the previous night and see if you seem to like those better than baby food. I hope so because I don’t think I will survive much longer if I don’t see you eat something soon!
Anyway, here are some things you are into this month!
Big girl baths (she outgrew the baby tub!)

Learning to use a sippy cup!

Sittin’ like this!

Hiking with daddy!

Jake, the doggy at Yiayia’s house!

Helping me with the laundry!

Playing the real piano!

Reachin’ for stuff you’re not supposed to have!

Playing with balls (preferably those that belong to the dog!)

Playing outside!

Don’t give me that look young lady (love you)!
